EC 72mm or 2.835" Forged Piston Assembly
EC Lightweight Forged Piston—Forged pistons are made by heating a solid ingot or billet material and pressing it with a die to realign the grain structure and increase its ductile strength. This allows for a more robust and lighter piston than cast, hypereutectic, or billet.
The piston uses the latest technology and design, utilizing a racing slipper skirt vs. a conventional barrel skirt design common with stock pistons. The low slipper skirt design also allows more clearance in the rotating assembly for larger stroke crankshafts. We also made the compression height shorter than the Tillotson 72mm piston. These improvements permitted using a longer rod while reducing weight in the rotating assembly.
We also coated the piston skirts to reduce friction and wear. The new piston improves performance and has greater longevity.
The piston fits 72mm bore blocks like the Tillotson 225R/RS, 228R, 236R/RX, 240RX, and Wildcat 240RS. Since the compression height is shorter, you'll need a longer rod for most builds. For example, the 8279 rods with a 58mm crankshaft and Tillotson 72mm piston put the piston near zero decks, but the 8279 rods with the EC 72mm piston will put the piston over .100 in the hole.
